Becoming Catholic

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (O.C.I.A.) is the process by which an individual is baptized and comes into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. This process also accompanies those baptized Christians who wish to become Catholics.

Full initiation into the Catholic Church takes place over a variable period from a few months to a few years, depending on the individual’s faith journey. In that time, those catechumens and candidates preparing for initiation learn more about the Catholic Faith and what it means to live a Christian life. The preparation processes culminate on the night of Holy Saturday before Easter in the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Learn more about Christian Initiation for Adults at this website from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
